Gallery Art Cocktail Party Press Release
Event Date: Thursday July 9th, 2009 8pm
Location: upstairs at The Mohawk on Red River
Members of an Austin band have decided to commemorate their musical conquests a little differently. They’ve teamed up with the usual suspects: a local record label, a local recording studio, local bands, and a local music venue…but with an artistic twist.
Frontperson & fiber-artist, Whitney Lee, has tied her crafty, arty, and sometimes risqué fiber-arts background with her local rock band, Black Cock. So local visual artists—not just musicians—will be the centerpiece of the event.
Upstairs at The Mohawk will be an RSVP-only party featuring pieces submitted by local artists, free drinks provided by Real Ale Brewing Company, and free food provided by 2Dine4 catering and Wicked Cakes. An awesome DJ will set the musical mood. And extra fun will be in order with Trevor Ray’s photo booth.
Downstairs will be a rock show featuring some of Austin’s most unconventional and exciting bands, including When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, Woodgrain, Transmography, This Horn of Afrika (San Antonio) and of course, Black Cock. Rosa Madriz of Transmission Entertainment says, “It’s good to see local bands taking initiative to build up the music scene but also linking the event back to the community.”
All of the bands are closely associated with Ohm Recording Facility, Australian Cattle God records…and the host, Black Cock. And all the musicians involved recognize how powerfully visual art shapes the community. The visual artists participating have a chance to win $500 and other prizes for participating. The artwork on display is rumored to be “rooster-themed” for the band’s next musical release.
Overall the members of Black Cock wanted to celebrate a lot of good things that have happened in the past year for the band. But they wanted to do it at a venue where you could wander around and enjoy music and art simultaneously or completely separately.
Mohawk bar manager, Rene Gilbert mentions that there have been lots of improvements to the outside stage, the full-service private bar upstairs, and the expanded balcony. “It gives the bands, visual artists, and anyone interested in a cool party the chance to actually interact.” July 9th 8pm @ The Mohawk on Red River– rsvp@blackcockrock.com.

Dallas’s very own fashionista at heart, Jacqueline Maccann launches a new social shopping network for designers in the fashion industry. From multimedia design to fashion show production, Jacqueline’s knowledge and creativity will aide in redefining the local world of fashion. As a graduate from the Art Institute of Dallas, Jacqueline’s mission has become to offer a helping hand to budding local designers giving them new and innovative ways to market and sell their products. Her company, named under a dual premise. Comes from the modern ideals of today’s social media interactions with networking as its central focus. Maccann feels that specific types of interdependency, such as values, visions, ideas, and financial exchange, all play a critical role in determining the ways in which organizations are run. In its simplest form a social network is a representation of the relevant ties between individuals in any type of community.
Design society intends to strengthen it’s various users in specific areas of networking, self-promotion, and marketing. Creating an empowering environment that better serves as an outlet for designers who need to promote their individual creativity but lack the voice to do so. With DesignSociety.net, designers can market and sell products through various social networking avenues. Designsociety.net offers to provide the tools to advance each individual’s company whether: designer, photographer, model, or buyer. In addition to providing this free marketplace of ideas for designers, Design Society makes it easier to post resumes and build business contacts by sharing an on-line profile with the world. Including features such as adding digital portfolios, video uploads, and individual listing in DesignSociety.net’s exclusive business directory.
In celebration of the launch of it’s newly created website Design Society is hosting a drawing with the winning prize set to giveaway a brand new search engine optimized website worth $600! In order to enter, designers participating in the contest must upload product photos (no posting fees involved) to DesignSociety.net no later than Monday the July 15th. The winner to be announced by July 20th, 2009.

First there was Memorial Day Weekend in 2007.
Then there was some random day in June of 2008.
Can anything prepare us for this year’s ultimate day of reckoning?
We’ve seen what the giant veggie dog can do by itself. It can pick people up and look like its going to eat them. It can get very angry and crack the ground just by stomping around.
But what will happen when it comes back to our city with a whole army of its kind?
Join us on INDEPENDENCE DAY to make sure it all turns out the right way!
Entry is $5 and comes with a ticket redeemable for 1 free veggie dog for those not competing.
Also, free NadaMoo ice cream, live music, and special guests for all!
SIGN UP NOW to compete in either the SOLO or DOUBLES categories: http://tinyurl.com/veggiedogcontest
