repost from launch787.com
Adi Anand and Natasha Taylor will be tying the proverbial knot on October 2nd at the Mohawk. It’s in sweet instances such as these that there appears to be total proof that life is infinite in wonderment and precious with its limited time and stolen moments. Obviously…emoting my own feelings for the couple here.

Adi Anand & Natasha Taylor
Anand, known for his work with the Austinist, his collaborative events with local promoters like Knuckle Rumbler and his past residency series at the Mohawk with Transmission Entertainment – From the Mind of Adi also known as FTMOA. Oh and let’s not forget his current monthly showcase, First Friday Frolic at Club DeVille. Gees. Thought I was busy!!!
So, let’s just say…these two cutie-pies definitely know how to throw a kick arse party, and from the sound of it, their plan is to do just that. Rock’n the hawk in style with their lyric infused nuptials and sweet wedding Prince tribute cover band – 23 Positions. This soulful overflow of collaborative talent comes from local bands Lost Werks, and a few of the dashing gents from The Lennings. To top that syrupy sweetness off will be the ever-so-talented local writer, Giant Noise publicist and bestie to the groom, William Dewberry Mills officiating the private ceremony. Plans of many spectacular things to follow…uh, like the raging after party starting at 8pm!
Okay folks, need I say more? But yeah, guess I kind of do. Oh wait, so do Natasha & Adi, check it:
Hey, Adi and Natasha! Totally excited about your upcoming vow exchange and kick-butt after party at the hawk coming up on October 2nd! Give us the dirt on how, when, and where you two met?
A: Natasha and I met at Hoover’s, Inc. (back in 2006) in the office one day when the company brought in free pizza, and we ended up going for the same slice (she let me have the slice because it had tomatoes and she doesn’t like those). After that, we ran into each other outside the bathroom and discussed our love for Poison (because they were touring at the time). Following that, we ended up going on our first date to New World Deli for lunch, and the rest as they say, is history.
What’s with the Mohawk nuptials? Other than the obvious fact that you practically reside there?
N& A: Well, we’re already having a decent sized wedding in November in India (and a reception in December in Houston), so for Austin, we were just gonna do a legal court wedding, but decided why not have a party and do the official legal ceremony then. The Mohawk was an obvious choice since I put on shows there regularly and of course, the owner James Moody and many of the staff there including managers Cody Cowan and Rene Stokes are good friends of ours. So we decided to do a sorta “rock n roll” wedding, on the stage at Mohawk, followed by bands and DJs.
Is there a wedding theme? What surprises are in-store for Nadi-fest attendees?
N& A: Rock N Roll Wedding! The attire is band/concert t-shirts. I believe there’s going to be a Tarot Card Reader there now, our buddy Matt deWitt who has recently picked up that practice.
Adi, tell us a little bit about the bands/music selections you have in store for Saturday’s festivities? Who’s playing?
A: We have 23 Positions, a Prince tribute band up first, because really how can you go wrong with Prince covers. The band is comprised of our friends Jason Blanchette and Ross Carnes. The Eastern Sea and The Frontier Brothers are both very talented young bands in Austin and I’ve been a huge fan over the years and have worked with them in the past. All the bands have been really excited to do this and we’re so glad they’re on board. And the dazzling duo that is Learning Secrets, ie. Jeramy Neugent and Ian Orth, will be spinning tunes before and after the ceremony.
In lieu of the traditional first dance song question…I have a more robust and fitting query for you both. If you lovebirds had to create a playlist of music that defined your lives together at this very moment, what would the top three bands of that playlist be?
A: Hmm, we may need to get together and get you an answer on this, but I would say The Beatles, Poison, and Stellastarr*
Last but not least… Are there any vendors that you would like to give a shout out to?
N& A: We’re lucky to have our friends help us capture the night forever — Annie Ray will be doing a photobooth upstairs, Alison Narro is taking wedding ceremony (and some pre and post pictures), and Miguel Angel is filming the ceremony for us. There will be food from Frank (love my boys Daniel Northcutt and Brendan Hannah there) plus cupcakes from Kenda Ebbs, ie. Peaches Magee.
Oh…and just in case anyone is wondering where this lovely couple is registered, well they are not. But, you CAN send them some congratulatory love by contributing to help send this couple to Australia for their honeymoon! Simply click here to donate. – See you at Nadifest!

Andrew Warhola, known as Andy Warhol, born August 6, 1928, was described as the bellwether of the art market in his time. Warhol, a household name largely associated with modernism and commonly identified as a great American painter, was also considered to be a leading figure in the visual art movement known as Pop Art. Warhol became famous worldwide not just for his work as a painter, but also for being an avant-garde filmmaker, record producer, author, and public figure known for his sorted membership to wildly diverse social groups, and consortium with distinguished intellectuals, and celebrities alike. In 1952, the artist debuted with his first individual show at the Hugo Gallery, exhibiting Fifteen Drawings Based on the eccentric writings of Mr. Truman Capote. Not a bad start…
Warhol went on to create many paintings that remain icons of 20th-century art, such as the Campbell’s Soup Cans, and the Marilyns. Not to mention his underground 16mm film classics, such as Chelsea Girls, Blow Job, and Empire.
In honor this iconographic American Pop artist the kids at Massive Beacon, are hosting a giant Andy Warhol Birthday Bash on Friday, August 6th at the Mohawk. In the tradition of its previous all-out parties like ATX Emerge and Massive Art Attack, Massive Beacon has put together a true night of debauchery. Those who come out to the event will be treated to a finely tuned sensory overload of bands, DJs, decorations, costumes, interactive art booths and tons of swag.
The event coordinators have taken every step to make sure that Warhol’s spirit is present. ”We want this to look like a factory event from the old days, but updated, as though they had never stopped throwing parties,” says Clayton Armstrong.
Massive Beacon plans to transform the Mohawk’s upstairs patio into an immersive environment with a throwback to Pop era decor, a photo booth by Trevor Ray Thompson, and live stop-motion animation booth, called The Edge of Imagination Station, created by one of the most unique San Marcos-based inventors of recent years, Johnny Villarreal. In true factory-party form there will be live screen-printing by Austin’s arts enthusiast Twin Villain, in association with (th)ink Tank. In addition to having apparel for sale and printing on-site partygoers can also bring in their own clothing items to print on during the show. With performances from local psyche-rockers Ringo Deathstarr, Hatchet Wound, Politics, and Prayer For Animals, and a DJ set from the always perennially fashionable Team Fabrication.
Be sure to get in your “15 minutes of fame” (*Andy Warhol coined this ubiquitous phrase about each human’s ability to momentarily grasp the ephemeral brass ring of notoriety.) as there will be a factory-person look-a-like contest with a grip of prizes from our sponsors, judged by local socialite, Richard Gonzalez of the blog Ultra8201.
Plan to eat like Manhattanites, with free sausage bites and veggie treats from Frank, Austin’s premier venue for cold beer and artisan sausage. Those provisions will last until 10:30 (so get there early!), but Massive Beacon will leave the first 250 people through the door with something to take home: $10 gift cards for Frank’s hot dogs. And to top it all off, the Mohawk will be adorned with the trimmings of Warhol’s legendary shindigs: red and silver balloons and stacks of reproduced Brillo boxes.
The party starts at 9 and is $7 with an RSVP at do512.com or $10 at the door. Sponsored by Frank Hot Dogs, Ultra8201, Birds Barbershop, and KVRX 91.7 FM, and is presented by Massive Beacon.

Pixel Pop: A Fusion of Art, Fashion and Music — Friday, July 16th @ The Mohawk
A couple of months ago, From The Mind Of Adi, Electric Promotions, and Team Fabrication decided to put on their thinking caps and come up with a cohesive shindig that combines their biggest passions. Pixel Pop, scheduled to take place on Friday, July 16th at The Mohawk, is the result of those brainstorming sessions. We’re excited to present this original event that brings together the wonderful worlds of art, fashion, and music. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. and cover charge is set at $5 ($7 for minors).
Team Fab’s Jen Rea and Erin Mikulenko are set to present a comic book inspired fashion collection, and local illustrator Chad Townsend will offer up an original art display at the event. Additionally, Jeannine Schafer and other Austin artists will be sketching on site as well. As for the music, outside, Candi and The Strangers and The Happen-Ins will entertain the masses, while later, inside, The Bubbles will bring down the curtain. Plus, DJ sets by uLOVEi throughout the course of the evening so bring those dancing shoes. And naturally, we’d love for you to treasure this evening’s memories forever. We’ve procured the services of not one, but two of our fabulous photog friends. Be sure to stop by both Annie Ray’s and Trevor Ray Thompson’s comic book themed photo-booths for a choice picture, or four.
Portions of the proceeds from the door will benefit HAAM, a local entity that ensures all musicians in town have access to affordable healthcare.
Finally, a big thank you to all our sponsors — Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Graham’s Texas Tea, Yelp, Birds Barbershop, Blue Note Bakery, Sirens Salon, Dynamic Reprographics, The WonderCraft, Sublime Stitching, 302 Designs, Jinxedaposed Clothing, Austin Aztex FC, TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls, and Austin Visual Arts Association.

From the mouth of Tolly Moseley….the talented red headed vixen is up to her amazing party tricks again…..
{Who has a weakness for vintage clothing, dance parties, cupcakes and alcohol? You? Me? Let’s dance.
Friends! If you are in the Austin-and-surrounding area, the lovely Sarah Dean from The Year of Living Thriftily and I are putting on a par-tay. The Austin Rock N’ Swap is designed to benefit your wardrobe, your dance moves, and the Earf! Let me just break down this awesomeness one piece at a time:
CLOTHING SWAP. You bring 10 gently-used pieces of garment magic to the Austin Rock N’ Swap, you get 10 pieces of clothing (or jewelry, accessories, shoes) in return. No clothes (perhaps you are walking around naked)? No problem: $5 will secure your entry.
POP-UP SHOPS. If you bring a little extra folding money, you get to peruse two ever-so-lovely pop-up shops by Laced With Romance and Magnolia Family Vintage.
DRANK. Treaty Oak Rum!
CUPCAKES. The Cupcake Bar will be there giving away samples of their famous confections. In true vintage style, they will have nostalgic candy toppings for your cake!
MUSIC. By two hot men, Businessman DJ’s. Go give their mix “It’s Gonna Be Awesome” a listen, as it basically describes how I feel about everything.
This is all happening Saturday, January 30, from 6-10pm. RSVP here for guaranteed entry! Because once we hit capacity, we have to close this baby up, and then you will be sad. Visit our Facebook invite too, and scheme with your friends for fashion swap ideas.
So….I cannot even tell you how excited I am about this. (Are you noting the exclamation points exploding from this post?) Sarah and I met years ago when I was interviewing her for a story in Rare, and since then have been good buddies! Today, she is a vintage stylist for a variety of shoots and magazines, including one of my faves, Boho. Check out her wonderful post on the event here, and also be on the lookout for “swap pointers.” }
with poster design by yours truely!
So come on out and get your swap on.

The Black and White Years:
During SXSW 2007, Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads discovered this local gem during their showcase. His enthusiasm for the group led to him producing their debut LP, and recruiting Steve Ferrone of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to perform the drum tracks. This led the band to sign with Brando Records which released their first LP in 2007. Since then, the band has performed at festivals such as Austin City Limits Festival, Wireless Festival in Hyde Park, London, and Midem in Cannes, France. In 2009, the band was awarded five music awards during SXSW including Best New Band, Best Song (“Power to Change”), Best Bassist, Best Performing Rock Band, and Best Producer. The song, “Power to Change” has been charted at Waterloo’s Top Ten Songs for numerous weeks and has been on regular rotation on 101X.
L.A.X.:
Emerged from the house party scene, electro group, L.A.X. combines a dance hybrid of house, R&B, and pop. Their invigorating live performance has made them a standout band, being recognized by influential blogs and media outlets. Recently, L.A.X. performed at ACL Festival and is scheduled to perform at this year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest with The Black and White Years.
The Bright Light Social Hour:
The Bright Light Social Hour, an Austin indie rock band who recently played at ACL Festival after winning Dell Lounge’s “Sound and the Jury” contest. The band competed with over 1500 bands from around the world in multiple rounds of public and industry voting, culminating in a final battle of the bands at Antone’s Nightclub two nights before the kickoff of ACL. Supported by hundreds of their local fans, the band garnered an unanimous vote from industry judges. Industry judges included reps from Paste Magazine, Spin Magazine, 101X, etc. Tim Basham with Paste Magazine said, “Their Dell Stage performance [at ACL] didn’t disappoint. They are a blast to watch, and I can’t get their songs out of my head.”
Neiliyo:
Neiliyo is a solo electro-funk producer/performer from Austin, TX. His high energy shows with simply an iPhone, a guitar and a charismatic “free-form MC” vocal style has kept him in demand at club shows, house parties, and boat parties around the US since his premiere in July 2008. Neiliyo’s debut LP, “People Skills” and the “Copywriting 101″ mixtape have received huge reviews from Austin’s finest critics, ranging from Partyends.com to Austinist and more. Neiliyo best describes himself as a “Me”J as opposed to a “DJ”, approaching electronic music at a fresh new angle for everybody to shake to.
