Pixel Pop: A Fusion of Art, Fashion and Music — Friday, July 16th @ The Mohawk
A couple of months ago, From The Mind Of Adi, Electric Promotions, and Team Fabrication decided to put on their thinking caps and come up with a cohesive shindig that combines their biggest passions. Pixel Pop, scheduled to take place on Friday, July 16th at The Mohawk, is the result of those brainstorming sessions. We’re excited to present this original event that brings together the wonderful worlds of art, fashion, and music. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. and cover charge is set at $5 ($7 for minors).
Team Fab’s Jen Rea and Erin Mikulenko are set to present a comic book inspired fashion collection, and local illustrator Chad Townsend will offer up an original art display at the event. Additionally, Jeannine Schafer and other Austin artists will be sketching on site as well. As for the music, outside, Candi and The Strangers and The Happen-Ins will entertain the masses, while later, inside, The Bubbles will bring down the curtain. Plus, DJ sets by uLOVEi throughout the course of the evening so bring those dancing shoes. And naturally, we’d love for you to treasure this evening’s memories forever. We’ve procured the services of not one, but two of our fabulous photog friends. Be sure to stop by both Annie Ray’s and Trevor Ray Thompson’s comic book themed photo-booths for a choice picture, or four.
Portions of the proceeds from the door will benefit HAAM, a local entity that ensures all musicians in town have access to affordable healthcare.
Finally, a big thank you to all our sponsors — Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Graham’s Texas Tea, Yelp, Birds Barbershop, Blue Note Bakery, Sirens Salon, Dynamic Reprographics, The WonderCraft, Sublime Stitching, 302 Designs, Jinxedaposed Clothing, Austin Aztex FC, TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls, and Austin Visual Arts Association.

Austin Handmade is the brainchild of forward thinking local art supporters Jason Butler and Catherine Jones. Butler, a native Texan and graduate from the Art Institute of Dallas also owns and operates Sixgunlover Records and Sonance Rehearsal Studios. His partner Catherine Jones, UT alumni and co-founder of Austin Handmade, helped to establish this business as her way of giving back to a community that has offered her so many possibilities. Austin Handmade began as an online store, marketed toward a national audience. Their idea was to have an inclusive array of arts to represent the diversity of talent in Austin. After receiving many requests from Austinites to create a local showroom, owners Catherine and Jason decided to open up shop. Austin Handmade’s mission is to provide an outlet for artists and to expand the notion of what art is, with a focus on affordable art.
Visit the Austin Handmade online store at www.austinhandmade.com to find an array of Austin’s talent with a wide diversity of art including screen printing, book binding, candle making, fabric art, graphic design and more, including detailed information on upcoming featured monthly artist events and the bi-weekly local Handmade Market.

Dallas’s very own fashionista at heart, Jacqueline Maccann launches a new social shopping network for designers in the fashion industry. From multimedia design to fashion show production, Jacqueline’s knowledge and creativity will aide in redefining the local world of fashion. As a graduate from the Art Institute of Dallas, Jacqueline’s mission has become to offer a helping hand to budding local designers giving them new and innovative ways to market and sell their products. Her company, named under a dual premise. Comes from the modern ideals of today’s social media interactions with networking as its central focus. Maccann feels that specific types of interdependency, such as values, visions, ideas, and financial exchange, all play a critical role in determining the ways in which organizations are run. In its simplest form a social network is a representation of the relevant ties between individuals in any type of community.
Design society intends to strengthen it’s various users in specific areas of networking, self-promotion, and marketing. Creating an empowering environment that better serves as an outlet for designers who need to promote their individual creativity but lack the voice to do so. With DesignSociety.net, designers can market and sell products through various social networking avenues. Designsociety.net offers to provide the tools to advance each individual’s company whether: designer, photographer, model, or buyer. In addition to providing this free marketplace of ideas for designers, Design Society makes it easier to post resumes and build business contacts by sharing an on-line profile with the world. Including features such as adding digital portfolios, video uploads, and individual listing in DesignSociety.net’s exclusive business directory.
In celebration of the launch of it’s newly created website Design Society is hosting a drawing with the winning prize set to giveaway a brand new search engine optimized website worth $600! In order to enter, designers participating in the contest must upload product photos (no posting fees involved) to DesignSociety.net no later than Monday the July 15th. The winner to be announced by July 20th, 2009.
