Needing Volunteers…DARS Division for Blind Services

DARS Division for Blind Services is in need of approximately 20 to 25 volunteers to help out at our annual Holiday Party.  Party guests will include blind, visually impaired, and multi-disabled children, along with their parents and siblings.  It is a really fun, high energy “carnival” type event, and they are looking for people who want to have lots of fun interacting with the kids.  Specifically they need volunteers to operate games (such as fish pond, cakewalk, etc.) and monitor booths where the kids will be creating craft projects.  They also need someone to do face painting and apply temporary tattoos!

The party will take place Saturday, December 6th at Rosedale School (2117 W. 49th St., Austin, TX) from 12:00pm to 3:00pm, but please plan to arrive at least an hour early so we can delegate tasks.  You are welcome to come as early as 8:00am if you would like to help with decorating and set-up.  This is a great way to make a difference in the lives of other families this holiday season, while donating just a few hours of your time.  It should be a fun and rewarding experience for all involved!

Please contact Krista Starr at (512) 533-7120 or krista.starr@dars.state.tx.us to sign up as a volunteer, or to get more information.

I have done this event three years in a row (as a face painter) and won’t be able to this year since my brother is graduating that day, but it is an absolute blast to hang out with the kids!
